The government plans to launch a consultation on recycling batteries of electric vehicles (EVs) in the coming months, Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng told the Environmental Audit Committee (EAC).
The announcement follows EAC’s letter which raised concerns about the lack of recycling facilities for lithium-ion batteries across the UK.
The body is expected to contribute to the consultation.
Environmental Audit Committee Chairman Rt Hon Philip Dunne MP said: “It is welcome news that the government is acting on our committee’s recommendations to boost the supply chain for battery EVs.
“As we move from internal combustion engine vehicles to EVs, we must adopt a circular economy for the batteries to minimise waste of precious metals and to be mindful of our carbon footprint.”
