“Windfall” cash payment to turbine neighbours

Good Energy weren’t having on their neighbours when they promised them an extra something if their wind farms did well.
Yesterday the renewable energy supplier credited the energy accounts of residents living near the Delabole wind farm with £50 each after their turbines had an “outstanding” 2013.
The cash goes into the pockets of households signed up to its Delabole Local tariff, which is 20% cheaper than the company’s standard electricity tariff.
This was opened up to people living within 2km of the site in January 2013.
Juliet Davenport founder and Chief Executive of Good Energy said: “It’s been a windy year at Delabole which is great for us and great for our local tariff customers! Our turbines have produced more power than we’d hoped – up 12% on the previous year – and it’s nice to be able to share the success with our loyal customers.”
She added: “We think it’s only right that the local community should be rewarded for their contribution to tackling climate change and reducing the UK’s reliance on imported fossil fuels.”
Paul Hill, local resident who is on the tariff said: “I’m over the moon… I love living next to the Delabole wind farm and it’s brilliant to be able to share in its success.”
He appeared to be a fan of the turbines’ appearance too, describing them as “truly majestic to look at especially when the sun rises from behind each morning.”
