The US installed more than 2GW of solar during the second quarter (Q2) of the year.

That’s a growth of 43%, compared to the same period last year, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA).

The country has reached 31.6GW of total installed capacity, it added.

In the first half of the year, solar accounted for 26% of all new electric generating capacity brought online in the country.

The SEIA believes the solar industry is “on pace” to nearly double in size this year as there’s more than 1.1 million residential installations nationwide and a contracted utility-scale pipeline of more than 20GW.

California accounted for 42% of rooftop installations in Q2 while 11 states added more than 25MW of the same installation.

Tom Kimbis, SEIA’s Interim President said: “Solar works in all 50 states and this report proves that what many would consider non-traditional markets are now firmly a part of the clean energy movement. While it took us 40 years to hit one million US solar installations, we’re expected to hit 2 million within the next two years.”
