UK renewable trade body RenewableUK has signed an agreement with its Korean counterpart, the Korean Wind Energy Industry Association.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) seals a commitment to work together to increase trade and business opportunities between the two nations.
The commitment was signed by chief executive of RenewableUK Maria McCaffery and Rimtaig Lee, chair of the Korean Wind Energy Industry Association in the presence of the Korean Vice Minister of Knowledge Economy Seok Cho.
The two organisations cite the example of Samsung’s plans for a £100 million wind turbine venture in Scotland announced earlier this year. And Samsung has also invested in 2Co Energy’s carbon capture and storage project.
South Korea is also developing plans for a giant 2.5 GW offshore wind project in the South China Sea as part of the country’s target to boost its renewable energy from 2% of its total to 10% by 2022.
“A great opportunity exists… to further develop ties between nations leading the world in renewable energy development,” says McCaffery. “That is why we are here alongside our friends from South Korea, signing our first ever agreement with another national wind energy trade association.”
