Plans to expand a natural gas power station in Texas have been given the go-ahead by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

It has issued a final greenhouse gas Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) construction permit to Victoria WLE.

Under EPA rules finalised in 2010, new projects that increase greenhouse gas emissions require federal air permits.

The $200 million (£125m) Victoria Power Station expansion project, which includes the installation of two heat recovery steam generators, is expected to nearly double the plant’s generating capacity from around 277MW to 530MW.

Ron Curry, Regional Administrator at EPA said: “Texas continues to play a key role in our nation’s diverse energy mix. As the economy grows, facilities like the Victoria Power Station will provide low-carbon sources of energy.”
