Wind generation is picking up thanks to the efforts of the UK and Germany.

According to new research by analysts at Platts, wind output in the UK had its most productive month ever. In December 2014, wind generated around 14% of the UK’s electricity.

Power on the other hand had a year-on-year decline by 17%. It had fallen 7% in December and fell again by 10% in January 2015 to £39.14 per megawatt-hour (MWh).

Germany reached a monthly record for a second month in a row for wind, up 52% year-over-year at 9.44 terawatt-hours (TWh) for December.

The figures show both the UK and Germany’s wind output drove down January European power prices.

The Platts Continental Power Index is monthly averages of day-ahead contract prices.
