Tajikistan to build green power line

Tajikistan plans to build a transmission line to bring hydropower to two countries in Southern Asia.
The project ‘CASA 1000’, which stands for ‘Central Asia-South Asia’, will also connect to the Kyrgyz Republic to export green electricity to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tajikistan detailing the financial specifics of the project this week.
As part of its modernisation agenda, state-owned energy company Barki Tojik will set out third party access rules and an independent energy regulator will be established.
Previously, the EBRD arranged a financing package to modernise the Qairokkum Hydropower Plant in the north of Tajikistan.
