The Seagreen project, which is said to become Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm has taken one step forward.

That comes after the Planning Committee of East Lothian Council gave outline planning permission for the developers of Seagreen to build an electricity substation for the wind farm.

The local authority said that community consultation has already taken place and the committee heard that granting permission for the project would not prevent any other development on the former Cockenzie power station site, including potential cruise or port activity.

Just a few days ago, ELN reported the latest development from the project, the arrival of jacket foundations at the Port of Nigg in Cromarty Firth.

Once commissioned, the project, which is owned by SSE Renewables and TotalEnergies, is forecast to produce enough energy to power 1.6 million homes.
