Just one week after the announcement of the government’s landmark Heat and Buildings Strategy it has been reported that none of the Cabinet ministers have heat pumps installed in their homes.

The Telegraph approached each minister of the Cabinet Office to ask if they had a heat pump at home.

According to the report, every one of the 30 ministers either declined to comment or admitted that they had not switched to heat pumps.

A few days ago, the Prime Minister confirmed that all new gas boiler installations will be banned across the UK by 2035.

As part of the newly announced Heat and Buildings Strategy households could benefit from £5,000 grants to replace their old gas boilers with low carbon alternatives.

A government spokesperson told ELN: “We are not asking people to replace fully-functional boilers and install heat pumps overnight.

“Instead, we are encouraging people to gradually replace their heating source over the next 14 years with a low carbon option, such as a heat pump.”

According to official data, domestic heating accounts for nearly 14% of UK emissions.

Two weeks ago, the Office for National Statistics said UK household emissions dropped by 10% last year.
