A new offshore wind turbine blade manufacturing plant in Teesside in North East England has been given the green light by the local planning authorities.

The facility is forecast to create 750 direct and around 1,500 indirect jobs in the area.

The construction of the plant, which will be operated by LM Wind Power, is expected to start in the coming months.

The facility will be dedicated to producing 107-metre- long offshore wind turbine blades.

LM Wind Power was acquired by GE Renewable Energy in 2017.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “It’s fantastic news that this mammoth project has passed the planning hurdle and is on course to be up and running by 2023, helping to create thousands of well-paid, good-quality jobs for people across Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool.”

President and Chief Executive Officer of LM Wind Power, said: “We are proud of the contribution we will be making in rejuvenating this industrial cluster and helping it play a key role in future of renewable energy.”
