London has been named as one of the 10 greenest cities in the world.

It has been ranked in ninth position in a list of 100 cities by consultancy Arcadis.

Its report highlighted London has a commitment to improving environmental performance through low emission buses and clean-up programmes.

Earlier this week, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan announced two fully electric bus routes will be rolled out in the capital by the end of the year.

In terms of investment in the aftermath of Brexit, the report adds the Mayor has a key role in persuading businesses that the city’s infrastructure and energy priorities haven’t changed and it remains just as viable outside of the EU.

Zurich is on the top of the list as it has a long term target of becoming a 2000-watt society by 2050 – a goal for the public to use that amount of energy per capita.

The new measure is part of the city’s plan to tackle climate change and resource scarcity.

Other sustainable commitments include investment and focus on energy efficiency and renewables, sustainable buildings, mobility for the future and an effort to increase public awareness.

Stockholm and Geneva complete the top three rankings while Kolkata, Wuhan and Doha are the less greener cities.
