Igloo Energy has been awarded more than £1 million across two government grants to help develop its energy saving software.

The company has received £900,000 from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) to continue work on a system to identify suitable energy efficient upgrades for customers’ homes, with the end goal of calculating the value to each customer of installing smart energy efficiency measures and providing bespoke recommendations to make it easier for them to reduce their usage.

Igloo Energy will receive assistance from the University of Southampton, which will focus on engaging customers and testing the recommendations, as well as the Foresight Group, which will investigate how to maximise the number of consumers that can benefit.

The firm has also been awarded a £120,000 grant by InnovateUK – this second project, in partnership with University College London, aims to support the understanding of existing data to create more confident insights into customers’ energy consumption.

CEO and Co-Founder of Igloo Energy, Matt Clemow, says: “Our customers are already using smart technology and seeing their energy consumption and bills drop by up to 30%.

“With these grants, we’re excited to be able to develop our technology to bring even greater savings, reduce household emissions further and boost local economies by increasing consumers’ disposable incomes.”
