The European Commission is imposing anti-dumping duties on imports of hot-rolled flat steel products from China.

Its investigation confirmed they had been sold in Europe at heavily dumped prices.

Hot-rolled flat steel is commonly used for the production of steel tubes used in construction and for shipbuilding, gas containers, cars, pressure vessels and energy pipelines.

The new anti-dumping duties range between 18.1% and 35.9% and are higher than the provisional measures already in place since October.

The Commission states: “These measures will shield the EU steel producers from the damaging effects of Chinese dumping during an initial period of five years.”

The EU currently has a total of 41 anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures, 18 are of which are on products from China.

Earlier this year, the Commission also imposed anti-dumping duties on imports of heavy steel plates from China as well as Taiwanese and Chinese stainless steel tube and pipe butt-welding fittings.
