The European Commission has approved Poland’s plans to include a 600MW gas-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant in its existing scheme that supports high efficiency co-generation facilities.

Co-generation help boost energy efficiency by recycling the heat from power production for other uses, with an overall benefit to the environment.

The scheme, which was given the green light by the Commission in September 2016, provides incentives for each MWh of electricity they generate in combined heat and power mode.

The Commission found the addition of the Plock plant to the scheme will contribute to the EU’s energy and environmental objectives without distorting competition.

Poland had to notify about the CHP facility because it exceeds the 300MW individual threshold.
