Ecotricity unwraps new wind turbine venture

Ecotricity has announced it is launching a new company to design and manufacture British wind turbines.
Called Britwind, it will sell two new turbine designs which are currently going through accreditation under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).
The news comes after Ecotricity bought Evance Wind out of administration earlier this year.
The green electricity supplier claims the two new systems “will reduce the cost of producing energy by up to half” when compared to similar sized small turbines.
They will be manufactured at a new Britwind factory in Gloucestershire, which will provide “an end-to-end service all under one roof”, including help with planning permission, installing and maintaining the turbines.
Ecotricity Founder Dale Vince said: “Britwind will design and manufacture 100% British windmills that are some of the most innovative in the world – they will bring big wind performance to small wind.
“What that means is that we’ve almost halved the cost of making energy when compared to a similar-sized small windmill. That’s a radical transformation for the industry.”
The turbines are expected to be on sale next year.
