The health of employees working at Drax biomass power station could allegedly have been threatened by the dust from the wood pellets that have been burned.

Sky News reported that Drax is being taken to court by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for two offenses.

The energy company is allegedly accused of exposing employees to wood dust at its Selby plant.

That might have posed a risk for their “health, safety and welfare at work”, according to the report.

Sky News claims the power giant is also charged with breaching risk assessment obligations before allowing employees to work with potentially ”hazardous substances” at the biomass station.

A Drax spokesperson said: “We can confirm that we have received notice of legal action from the Health and Safety Executive in relation to wood dust at Drax Power Station but as this is an ongoing legal issue we cannot provide any further information at this time.

“The health, safety and wellbeing of our colleagues is a priority for Drax.”

ELN has contacted HSE for a response.
