A record number of companies have joined a global initiative to source 100% of their electricity from renewable sources.

Estée Lauder, Kellogg’s, DBS Bank and Clif Bar have joined the RE100 campaign, which is run in partnership with the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and recently celebrated breaking the milestone of 100 global firms.

The 106 members of the campaign are now taking the total demand for renewable electricity to around 150TWh each year, more than enough to power the whole of New York State.

Helen Clarkson, Chief Executive Officer of The Climate Group, said: “By joining our campaigns, corporates like Estée Lauder, Kellogg, DBS Bank and Clif Bar are demonstrating the highest level of commitment to climate action and setting an example at Climate Week NYC.

“But they’re not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts – renewable power makes business sense and corporate leadership is absolutely key to delivering on the Paris Agreement at speed.”

However, as many as 35 of the 50 most influential companies in the world are actively lobbying against climate policy.
