One of Canada’s largest pipeline operators has bought a large-scale solar power plant.

TransCanada is paying Canadian Solar $52 million (£33m) for the 10 megawatt (MW) solar plant in New Liskeard, Ontario. New Liskeard is a town which butts onto Lake Timiskaming.

The Liskeard 1 power plant is the eighth solar project TransCanada has bought and will give electricity to the Ontario Power Authority for 20 years under a power purchase agreement.

Russ Girling, president and chief executive officer of TransCanada said the deal shows its “commitment to maintaining a diverse portfolio of generating capacity in Ontario which includes 958MW of gas fired generation and our combined interest of about 40% in the 6,200 MW Bruce nuclear facility”.
