Protesters block Cuadrilla fracking site in Lancashire
Campaigners have blockaded a fracking site in Lancashire in protest against the controversial drilling process.
They say Cuadrilla’s plans to frack around five miles away from the Springfields nuclear fuel production plant could pose a risk.
Six demonstrators initially locked themselves to a car and other heavy objects at 3am this morning, preventing vehicles from accessing Cuadrilla’s Preston New Road site.
Three of them have however been arrested by police.
Nikki Clark, one of the protesters said: “Fracking is dangerous and unnecessary and fracking near a nuclear site is just madness.
“Renewables can provide the jobs and clean power we need in Lancashire and the UK.”
The protest is part of a month of action organised by campaign group Reclaim the Power to resist fracking in Lancashire.
ELN has contacted Cuadrilla for a statement.
