Labour leader Ed Miliband has appointed former Deputy Prime Minister Lord Prescott to act as his official climate change adviser.

Lord Prescott served as the EU’s lead negotiator at the Kyoto talks, which led to the first global agreement on cutting carbon emissions in 1997.

He served as deputy leader of the Labour Party for 13 years under Tony Blair and resigned as deputy prime minister in 2007

In a tweet yesterday, Mr Miliband said Lord Prescott “knows how to knock heads together”.

Lord Prescott added he’s taking on the role “for my grandkids.”

Last week, Mr Miliband, Prime Minister David Cameron and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg signed a pledge committing to work together to tackle climate change.
