India offers to help Sudan develop renewable energy

India has offered to provide its assistance in developing renewable energy sources in Sudan.

Dr Farooq Abdullah, India’s Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy held a meeting for co-operation in renewable energy with a delegation from Sudan and discussed ways of promoting clean energy sources in the two nations.

“The talks focused on the areas of possible cooperation especially in the development of wind energy, solar energy, biomass and small hydro resources,” a statement from the Indian ministry said.

It added that India would provide support for resource assessment and training in the areas of wind and solar power through its technical institutions.

The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), which is the nation’s green energy financial body, would also provide help in developing renewable energy on a commercial basis.

Officials from the Indian Ministry is expected to visit Sudan soon to discuss a framework for further co-operation between the two nations.
