EDF’s renewable arm has kicked off commercial operations of a 200MW wind project in Texas, US.

The Hereford wind farm in Deaf Smith County will generate enough electricity to power around 55,000 homes and avoid 375,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions every year.

That’s equivalent to the annual emissions of 80,000 vehicles.

Electricity generated from the wind farm will be sold to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) power market.

Tristan Grimbert, President and CEO of EDF Renewable Energy said: “With the Hereford project in operation, the Group’s installed capacity since entering the Texas market in 2012 reaches 672MW with another 394MW in construction.”
