The preferred bidders for a £7 million offshore wind operations and maintenance (OM) facility have been selected.

Three British companies were today announced to build the Galloper Operations Maintenance Base and its associated infrastructure at Harwich International Port in Essex.

The businesses have been confirmed as R G Carter for the construction of the OM building, Jackson Civil Engineering Group for the construction of the access road and Farrans Construction for the fabrication and installation of the pontoon.

A planning application is currently being progressed – if successful the three construction contracts will go live.

The construction of the project, which is expected to be completed by spring 2018, is being led by innogy SE and is expected to generate enough clean electricity to power up to 336,000 homes.

Galloper Operations Maintenance Manager, Sean Chenery, said: “The operations and maintenance base will be the hub for all of the activity to maintain and operate the wind farm over its 23-year life.

“Therefore these contracts and the construction of the base would signify the beginning of a major long term investment and jobs boost for the area.”
